30 Free Activities for the Summer Holiday

Do the kids say they’re bored? A variety of free options to alleviate boredom

Though going on summer vacation means taking time off from school, it doesn’t mean there is total freedom and that freedom has no rules. In every home, even during the summer vacation, rules of behavior are defined such as hours of returning home from parties, bedtime and the amount of money spent on various pastimes.

Part of the responsibility for what to do, when and how much lies with the children and the list of free activities can help deal with “I’m bored” and save costs.

Share the list with your kids.

  1. The sea is free, and so is the neighborhood park.
  2. Set up camp – build a tent in the living room or garden, make fondue, sing songs and play games.
  3. Bake cakes or cookies and give them to your elderly neighbors or grandparents.
  4. Download coloring, enrichment and game pages from the web.
  5. Scavenger hunt – write riddles, bury your notes and invite the rest of your family or friends to the game.
  6. Find a job for time off – babysitting, looking after a dog or cat, counceling in a camp for small children.
  7. Organize a home spa – play relaxing music in the background, light incense, concoct creams, masks and exfoliate homemade ingredients (there are ‘recipes’ online), put cucumbers on your eyes, drink herbal teas and most of all – relax.
  8. Host a home MasterChef contest – prepare foods from ingredients available at home and finally return for a family meal.
  9. Connect with nature – plant plants in a planter or garden, learn about caring for plants, be sure to take care of them.
  10. Tidy and clean the room, make room in the room for the new textbooks.
  11. Prepare bags of clothes, games and books to donate.
  12. Dance – clear furniture and prepare a “dance floor”, play music and dance, freestyle or with instructional videos
  13. Find a place where you can volunteer, you can also volunteer “remotely” – adopt an elderly person and talk to him, private lessons for children on Zoom, etc.
  14. Research online a topic that interests you.
  15. Read a book, solve quizzes and crossword puzzles and booklets of the Summer Holidays.
  16. Remember forgotten games, open drawers and find treasures.
  17. Turn the living room into a cinema – darken the room, choose a favorite movie, make popcorn.
  18. Arrange the photos – did your parents take pictures on their phone, download them to the computer and leave them in the folder? Ask parents on how to arrange and categorize them. You can design albums using easy-to-use apps.
  19. Tidy up your home Ask parents if there are any special tasks for tidying the house, cleaning the house or car, gardening, etc. Discuss with your parents the possibility of rewarding you with points or virtual money where at the end of the vacation the whole family can go out together.
  20. Watch plays from home.
  21. Help parents with shopping, compare prices at supermarkets near home or online.

  23. Prepare a savings account and try to save as much as possible on vacation.
  24. Play and learn online financial education: ORT Financial Education for Youth, Where the Money is – Financial Education for Children, Bank of Israel for Young Adults.
  25. Organize a family or friends karaoke night.
  26. Fill a pool on the terrace or garden, make popsicles from natural fruits and raspberry juice.
  27. Create a workshop – collect scrap and packaging, remove glue, scissors and other creative tools and make models.
  28. Travel the world – prepare passports, visit different countries using Google Earth, learn about the culture, language, major sites and more, prepare a craft or food related to the country you visited.
  29. Do sports – you can use instructional videos and use objects you have at home – canned goods as weights, jump rope and more.
  30. Have a picnic in the living room, garden or park nearby.
