Thinking Ahead About Your Health
Look through your medicine cabinet or drawer and check what you used last winter – which medications you’ve finished, what expired, and what was left unused.
Most of us live a drive away from the pharmacy – leave the stock to the pharmacists and only keep what you need at home.
Need to buy medication or replenish your stock?
Remember, over-the-counter medications are significantly cheaper at health fund pharmacies. Additionally, health fund pharmacies generally have fewer items you will be tempted to buy.
Believe in natural strengthening of the immune system? It is better to buy vitamins and supplements in most health fund pharmacies as well. Compare different brands – you may find that despite the price differences, the products are the same.
Additional Tips for a Safe Winter
Heating
Make sure that your heating devices are placed in the center of the room and near internal walls, as opposed to external ones.
Have a tiled roof? Ensure that the insulation material between the tiles and the house is intact and in good condition.
Remember, never leave a heater on in a room unattended.
Heavy Rain Equals Poor Visibility
Winter is here, and along with the smell of rain come various risks.
Prepare your car for winter – check that the tires are in good condition, and that the windshield wipers, brakes and lights work properly. Each of these steps, and especially all of them combined, can turn an unpleasant road incident (G-d forbid) into a smooth drive.
Be sure to clean your car windows not only from the outside but from the inside as well. Accumulated dirt and fog on the windshield reduce visibility and blur your vision.
Check that the tire pressure is suitable for the vehicle’s weight to enhance safety and save fuel. Furthermore, make sure to drive slowly and safely, therefore saving lives and money.
Tea, Lemon, and Old Books
During cold winter days there’s nothing like curling up with a book and a warm drink to energize the body. Too bad the kettle also loves spending energy to help heat the water.
Make sure to maintain your kettle or water heater and to clean the mineral deposits from the heating elements. Boil only the amount of water you need for the number of hot drinks you plan to prepare.
Need boiling water to cook with? Remember, its better to boil large quantities of water on the stove – a bit of patience can make a big difference on your bills.
Wishing everyone a healthy, cost-effective, and warm winter!
